G.I. Joey was a team project spanning a nine month period during the beginning of 2011 where I served as the lead character designer. It was developed for the mobile market using UDK's mobile. Team Evil Monkey was comprised of four artists including myself. My responsibilities were to design a main enemy for the prototype of G.I. Joey, model, UV unwrap, texture and create a low-poly version. I also created stand-in assets when needed and assisted in some of the early Kismet required.
Here is a quick video run-through of the early game design with the monkey in action.
We made the monkey as low-poly as possible to help with render times due to the fact that there were often a lot of monkeys on screen at once. His texture is a simple 512, which we felt left enough detail while still being a manageable file size.
